A 75 year old, resident of a New Jersey senior citizen housing complex is suspected of running a prostitution ring that employed some fellow senior citizens as sex workers.
Suspect James Parham was also accused along with Cheryl Chaney (66) of allowing residents and guests to smoke crack in their apartments.
Both have been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a nuisance. Chaney has also been charged with possession of crack cocaine.
The “nuisance” charge refers to Parham allowing prostitution in his apartment and Chaney housing illegal drug use in hers.
According to Englewood Police Chief Arthur O’Keefe, Parham basically created a mini whorehouse in his apartment that employed both young and elderly women.
None of his employees were arrested.
O’Keefe said there are certain areas of the complex where sex and drug use was common, areas where some residents were afraid to go near.
Richard Allaway, a resident, says he and many others knew there was “a lot of nonsense going on.”
O’Keefe believes that the lack of security in the building is what allowed residents like Parham and Chaney to freely engage in criminal activity.
Information regarding possible jail time for Parham and Chaney is yet to be released.
