Willie Smith Ward felt the full force of the law after being convicted of the crime in Waco, Texas, on Wednesday.
The 43-year-old may feel slightly aggrieved over the severity of the sentence however having been found guilty of robbing the $35 (£23) meat.
He must serve at least a quarter of his sentence before he’s eligible for parole after an employee said she was threatened with a knife.
With a string of previous convictions to his name, including for burglary, attempted robbery, aggravated assault, the jury recommended Ward be sentenced as a habitual criminal.
‘This verdict shows that the citizens of this county will not tolerate a continued disrespect and disregard for other people and their property,’ said District Attorney J.R. Vicha
‘People who choose to do so will be dealt with seriously and appropriately.’
