Students from school in Melbourne's southeast suspended over marijuana-laden cookies
FIVE students have been suspended from a southeast Melbourne school after marijuana was put in cookies baked during a home economics class.
The students, two in year 9 and three in year 8, have been sent home for at least two days following the incident.
It is understood two of the students made the drug-laced treats while the others sampled them but spat out the contents.
The Education Department yesterday confirmed the stunt, which occurred at a school for disadvantaged students.
The Herald Sun has chosen not to name the school.
``The school has confirmed the amount added into the cookie batter was very small and that none of the cookies were consumed by students,'' the department said in a statement.
``The school immediately contacted the parents of the students involved and held a meeting with them at school.
``The school takes all matters of this kind very seriously, and the students have been suspended for two days.''
A local police youth resource officer, drug and alcohol education officer and an adolescent health worker will counsel the students on their return.
